Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, honest answers about pricing, transit windows, item protection, storage, and licensing for your move.

Pricing

Moving costs depend on several factors: distance, the volume/weight of your belongings, the services you choose, and timing.

Local moves are typically charged hourly, while long-distance moves are priced on the weight of your shipment plus distance. Peak season (May-September) and end-of-month dates may carry different rates.

The unfortunate truth in this industry is that quotes can vary widely between companies even though the underlying costs are similar. A quote that looks far cheaper than the others is usually a sign of lower service quality or fees added later — not real savings. Contact us for a free, honest, personalized quote.

There are no hidden fees with BTS Moving. We disclose every potential surcharge before you book. Our internal rule is simple: do not surprise the customer.

Your quote will clearly itemize base moving services, any additional services (packing, storage, etc.), applicable access fees (stairs, long carry), and insurance options.

A cheaper quote often means less transparency, less insurance, and no delivery guarantee — with a final bill that ends up in the same range anyway once surcharges are added.

For genuine quality, always check reviews, confirm licensing and insurance, and ask directly whether a quote is firm or can move with the actual weight loaded.

Transit Windows

Timelines vary based on distance and route, but most long-distance moves are delivered within a 1 to 3 week guaranteed window. Shorter regional moves can be as fast as 2-7 days.

Every move includes a guaranteed delivery window and real-time tracking, so you always know when to expect your belongings. If we miss that window, we pay you $50 per day until delivery.

We recommend booking 2-4 weeks in advance, and 6-8 weeks ahead during peak summer season. Four weeks is generally the sweet spot for long-distance moves.

That said, we can often accommodate last-minute moves with 48-72 hours notice depending on crew availability, so don’t hesitate to reach out even on a tight timeline.

Local moves are typically within the same city or metro area and are billed hourly. Long-distance moves cross state or regional lines and are priced by weight and distance, with a guaranteed delivery window instead of a single day.

Storage

Yes. If your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up perfectly, we offer flexible, pro-rated storage, with your first month free on qualifying long-distance moves.

No hidden penalties. Because storage is billed month-to-month and pro-rated, if your plans shift you simply hold on to your items until you’re ready — no surprise fees for delays.

Yes. When you’re ready to retrieve your items, delivery is included with no extra re-delivery fees. Just book your delivery date and your shipment will arrive.

Protection

Most moving companies cover $0.60 per pound with a deductible. BTS Moving includes $1.50 per pound with no deductible — nearly five times more coverage and far greater peace of mind.

Our crews are trained to wrap and protect your furniture using moving blankets, bubble wrap, corner protection, and custom crating where needed. Keeping your goods safe over long distances is our top priority.

We provide an accurate estimate by assessing your shipment through a video call, detailed photos, or a complete inventory list, allowing us to estimate total weight and give you a clear, honest quote before pickup.

Service Area

Yes, we move customers all year round, including through winter months, with the same care and guarantees.

In most cases, yes — as long as the location is within a reasonable distance of a major hub we service. Contact us with your specific route and we’ll confirm availability.

Licensing & Insurance

Yes, BTS Moving is fully licensed and insured for local and long-distance moves. We maintain all required certifications and comply with applicable regulations governing the moving industry.

Yes. We cannot move hazardous materials (propane, gasoline, chemicals), perishable goods, plants (on long-distance moves), pets, or irreplaceable valuables like cash, jewelry, and important documents. We recommend transporting these personally.

Tipping is never required — our movers are paid fairly and don’t expect it. That said, if you choose to tip for exceptional service, a common guideline is 15-20% of the total cost or $20-$50 per mover for a full day’s work.

Yes, please empty all drawers. Extra weight can cause damage to the furniture and makes items unsafe to lift.
